The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in east Clarksdale.
A press release from the Sheriff’s Department said authorities were executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.
Nina Chicouras Zachary, 88, of West Helena, Ark., passed away on Jan. 27, 2020, due to natural causes after a brief illness.

Robert Blake Ashmore was convicted this morning of first-degree murder of Mason Howard, 19, with a 12-gauge shotgun on April 9, 2016 and sentenced to life in prison under the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The verdict came in a jury trial in second circuit judge Al Smith’s courtroom.

There are times when a writer is too explicit.
The first time it happened to me was right here in Clarksdale. The Clarksdale High School Wildcats played a football game in Corinth one Friday night and were beaten handily. As I remember it, the score was 36-6. The headline I wrote said: “Tame Turtles lose to Corinth, 36-6.”
