Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.C. Tyler officiating. Burial will be at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Lyon.


Eunice Denise Farmer

Eunice Denise Farmer, 63, a homemaker out of Dundee, died June 3, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery.


Noel Monaghan Russell

Noel Monaghan Russell, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in Stuart, Fla., from complications from a heart attack he suffered several days earlier.

Noel was born in Clarksdale on June 24, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs.  James A. Russell, Jr. and raised on his family’s farm near Jonestown. 


Regina Inez McCoy

Regina Inez McCoy, 91, of Lakeland, Tenn., and formerly of Clarksdale  passed away Saturday June 1, 2019 at home. Visitation is Monday June 3, 2019 from10:30 to 11 a.m. at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday June 3, 2019 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.


Laura Lynn Resneck

Laura Lynn Resneck, 52, a former Teacher in Arkansas, died May 25, 2019 at Baptist East in Memphis. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Beth Israel Cemetery in Clarksdale. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale handled the arrangements.

Resneck, a resident of Olive Branch, graduated from Memphis Academy of Arts.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.



Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.
