As COVID-19 cases fall, Clarksdale considers mandatory masks

While COVID-19 is still out there, Mississippi is reporting single digit fatality numbers again and Coahoma County has only had six new cases in a week.

The Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioner will consider making people in the public wear masks at it regular board meeting Monday.




Cora Lee Slaughter

Cora Lee Slaughter, 90, of Clarksdale died June 6, 2020 at her residence.

Public viewing is 2 to 5 p.m. June 11, 2020 at Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at noon June 12, 2020 at Heavenly Rest Cemetery with Pastor Freddie DeShazer presiding.

Arrangements are entrusted Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home.

Billy Joe Williams

Billy Joe Williams, 81, went to be with the Lord Monday morning April 20, 2020, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford. Billy Joe was born in Sumne, on March 25, 1939, to his parents Joe and Lily Rogers Williams. Billy Joe was married to Meadie Rice Williams for 43 years.



St. Elizabeth School honor roll

St. Elizabeth School recently announced its honor roll for the first nine week grading period.

Pastor’s List (All A’s) honors went to sixth-grader Rachel Thornton, fourth-graders Cooper Flowers, Colton Dixon, Harris Stonestreet and Kayln Matthews, and third-graders Lucy Beth Anthony and Callie Jo Griffin.


Anita Antone

Anita Antone, 79, a Clarksdale resident who was retired from FedEx, died Monday, March 25, 2019, at the Clarksdale Nursing Home.

Ms. Antone loved her pets. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steaner Augustine Antone and Ida Marie Sbravati Antone.
