Coahoma coronavirus count

A higher than normal COVID-19 infection count and easy accessibility to Memphis, Arkansas and the heart of the Mississippi Delta are reasons Coahoma County was chosen as one of the state’s first two mobile testing sites last week.

Twenty-five Coahoma County residents took advantage of the mobile testing site for the coronavirus in the parking lot of the Expo Center throughout the day on Friday, March 27. The Mississippi State Department of Health and the University of Mississippi Medical Center organized the testing.




Coahoma County virus count at 26 as of Friday

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Coahoma County rose by four Friday and now stands at 26 after the county first reported two cases on March 18.

There still have not been any Coahoma County deaths attributed to COVID-19. With the community now 17-days into the pandemic, it is apparent some of those 26 have gotten well.

County boys set to take on Potts Camp at 3 p.m. Friday

The Coahoma County High School boys are one game away from winning their third Class 2A state championship in four years.

Potts Camp, a former division opponent, is the one team standing in the way of the Red Panthers (23-10, 9-1). The Cardinals and Red Panthers will face off in the state championship at 3 p.m. Friday at Ole Miss.

Authorities search for missing inmate in Clarksdale

The Mississippi Department of Corrections is looking for Quitman County Community Work Center Inmate Walter Lee Lewis.                                                                                                                

Lewis, 31, was last seen around 1:05 p.m. Thursday at a jobsite in Clarksdale.

GERMANTOWN, TENN.—Ann Tomlinson Barnett, 93, of Germantown, Tenn., passed away Oct. 29, 2019 at Regional One Health Medical Center. Born in Helena, Ark. on Jan. 22, 1926 to Mr. & Mrs. E.P. Tomlinson, she grew up in Clarksdale.

Jason Stuart Carpenter, 39, a former Teacher and Coach at Clarksdale High School, died June 30, 2019 at Methodist University. Visitation 1 to 2 p.m. is Wednesday July 3, 2019, at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale.
