Linda Brooks Whitehead, 79, a retired teacher from Clarksdale,, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center. Graveside service is 9 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020 at Delta Burial Funeral Home in Clarksdale.



DeAndre Tyson

DeAndre Tyson, 11, of St. Paul, Minn., died July 23, 2020.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 8, 2020 at Friars Point Cemetery with Pastor Johnny Elmore presiding.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home.

First Nursing Home Case Reported In County

Coahoma County posted its first reported case of coronavirus in a nursing home Monday, while the state saw the traditional drop in cases reported over the weekend.

Mississippi reported only one death from the disease on Monday.

Coahoma County went 118 days into the pandemic without a case of the virus reported in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility. The state’s case count for LTC’s also includes staff who test positive with the disease and not just residents of those facilities.

There have been no deaths reported in LTC’s in Coahoma County.

Michael Scott Monaghan

Michael Scott Monaghan, 66, a dispatcher at the University of Mississippi and former Clarksdale resident, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.

Mike, who lived in Oxford, was an avid reader.


Charles Lee Hannah

Charles went to be with his Lord Sept. 2, 2019. He was born March 2, 1933 to Willie Philpot Hannah and James Ervin Hannah in Mattson, he served in the Airforce and was stationed in El Paso, Texas, when he married his childhood sweetheart, Flossie Youngblood. It would have been their 66th wedding anniversary Sept. 4.
