Willye B. Shanks, 98, of Clarksdale, born Nov. 3, 1922, died.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. June 17 with the Rev. Thompson officiating. Burial is at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 at Century Funeral Home.

Century Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

This will be the first Easter in more than 30 years that I have not been in church on Sunday.

I’ve said before in this space that I started going to church nine-months before I was born. Yes, there was a rebellious stage in my early 20s, but “raise up a child in the way he should go” . . . well, you know the rest.


Local schools adjusting schedule after coronavirus outbreak

All high schools in Coahoma County are scheduled to open after spring break next week, but due to the coronavirus, three of the districts are not going back until Tuesday.

 

The Clarksdale and Coahoma County school districts and Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School will be closed Monday and open again on Tuesday.

James Ronald Mitchell

James Ronald Mitchell, 82, died July 11, 2018, at The Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo following a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Hollandale to J.R. and Gladys Bowlin Mitchell.

CCC (1-4) suffered its fourth consecutive defeat with a 29-27 loss.
