Robert Fava Jr.

Robert Fava, Jr., 82, was born on April 14, 1938 and went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 18, 2020 at his home in Alligator. He was the Owner and Operator of Mary Ann’s Variety Store and Fava Brothers Grocery in Alligator for over 50 years. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.




POLICE REPORT

The following crime reports were released by the Clarksdale Police Department Assistant Chief Vincent Ramirez, Tuesday, May 12 through Monday, May 18, 2020.

MON. MAY 18

Vehicle Shot

Officers responded to the area of the 500 block of North State Street at 9:11 p.m. in reference to a shooting into a vehicle. When they arrived on the scene, they spoke with Veronica Jenkins and she stated that she was at TigerMart, when she heard several gunshots outside the building.

Jenkins said she came out to find her vehicle along with several other vehicles had been hit by gun fire.

Officers searched the area and found several shell casing in the Daylight Donut shop parking lot.

The case was assigned to Investigator M. Dawson.

Woman Shot

On Monday morning around 12:17 a.m. officers responded to 439 South State Street in reference to a female subject that had shot.

When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Tirua Hodges and noticed that she had been shot in the lower back area. Hodges was transported by helicopter to Region One in Memphis in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Investigator K. Walker.

Shots Fired

On Monday officers responded to a call of shots fired on Wildcat Drive. No one was found in the area, but officers searching the area foun several shell casings in the roadway.

Local schools adjusting schedule after coronavirus outbreak

All high schools in Coahoma County are scheduled to open after spring break next week, but due to the coronavirus, three of the districts are not going back until Tuesday.

 

The Clarksdale and Coahoma County school districts and Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School will be closed Monday and open again on Tuesday.

State auditor issues more than $1.1 million in demands; Former tourism director Allen, former CCC employees indicted

JACKSON – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from the Auditor’s office have made arrests in two separate cases after a grand jury assembled by District Attorney for the 11th District Brenda Mitchell indicted Gwendolyn Jefferson, Stacie Neal, and Kappi Allen.

Molly Jane Tolar Franks

Molly Jane Tolar Franks, 67, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2019 in Clarksdale. Born on Aug. 3, 1952 in Clarksdale, she was the daughter of the late Sam V. Tolar, Sr. and Bernice Rowland Tolar.

Mrs. Franks graduated from Clarksdale High School and Delta State College. She served in the Army for six years, achieving the rank of Captain.
