Blues highlight film fest

Clarksdale blues music and musicians was the team of two evening features at the 10th annual Clarksdale Film Festival Friday and Saturday nights.

“Walk with Me: Lucious Spiller, Called to Sing the Blues” played Friday at Grandma’s Sports Bar and “The Blues Trail Revisited: A Documentary Memoir” played Saturday.

Coahoma Sheriff's Department involved in shooting

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in east Clarksdale.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Department said authorities were executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.

Willie Williams, 66, died Oct. 24, 2019 at Saint Francis Hospital - Memphis. Funeral services are noon Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Luster Tyler officiating. Burial is at McLaurin Memorial Garden. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at Century Funeral Home.



Vivian Washington

Vivian Washington, 44, of Clarksdale died Sept. 14, 2019.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at McKinley St. Church of Christ with Minister Oscar Dorsey presiding. Burial will be at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Friday.
