Clarksdale author Thompson unveils new book at hometown appearance Friday

Over the past decade, Clarksdale native Wright Thompson has steadily carved out a niche as one of the most successful sportswriters in America.

His work includes the most-read articles in the history of ESPN Magazine and he’s been anthologized in The Best American Sports Writing books 10 times.

Friars Point may start Habitat For Humanity chapter

FRIARS POINT — Dorothy Jenkins, president of the Farrell-Sherard Habitat for Humanity, spoke to the Friars Point City Council during its Wednesday, Jan. 2 meeting about possibly getting a chapter in the community.

Jenkins said the Habitat for Humanity chapter has been around since 1994, but things have changed.

While there were some questions answered in Tuesday’s general election, there remain a few races where the winners are still to be determined.

Locally, Circuit Court Judge Charles Webster and County Judge Kent Haney both won re-election to their seats, as did Congressman Bennie Thompson.
