Clarksdale native Dr. Reed Hogan proposes treatment for COVID-19

JACKSON -- It began with a treatment for skin inflammation. Then, Reed Hogan II, MD, began pondering if an inexpensive, available, over-the-counter treatment might also work in severe gastrointestinal illness, much of it caused by inflammation.

The Clarksdale native was seeing success. Then, COVID-19 hit.




First Nursing Home Case Reported In County

Coahoma County posted its first reported case of coronavirus in a nursing home Monday, while the state saw the traditional drop in cases reported over the weekend.

Mississippi reported only one death from the disease on Monday.

Coahoma County went 118 days into the pandemic without a case of the virus reported in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility. The state’s case count for LTC’s also includes staff who test positive with the disease and not just residents of those facilities.

There have been no deaths reported in LTC’s in Coahoma County.


Care Station to host fourth mobile food pantry

COVID-19 stopped many businesses and institutions, but it has not stopped CARE Station from serving the hungry of this community.

The Care Station and Mid-South Food Bank will host their fourth mobile food pantry distribution at the Expo Center next week. Approximately 13-tons of food was distributed in their last effort.

Malcolm Mabry Jr.

Malcolm Mabry, Jr. of Dublin, born in 1933, was an animal lover, farmer, teacher, artist, writer and former long-time legislator. Malcolm Mabry, Jr. died June 12, 2020 at Clarksdale Nursing Center. Malcolm was 87-years-old. He leaves behind the legacy of a life devoted to the betterment of both man and animals.


Beverly Allen

Beverly Allen, 55, of Clarksdale died June 7, 2020 at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Public viewing is June 19, 2020 at Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home. Graveside service is 1 p.m. June 20, 2020 at Heavenly Rest Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Gooden presiding.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home.
