Symphony Shonte Wilson, 29, of Tunica died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019 in Robinsonville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale with the Rev. Jimmy Glasper presiding.

Delta Burial Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.




Rose Ann Moore Hudson

Rose Ann Moore Hudson, 65, born Sept. 9, 1954, died at St Francis Hospital Sept. 13, 2019.

She is survived by her husband Jonathan Hudson of Clarksdale. She was preceded in death by the late Willie Moore Sr. and survived by Lula Mae Moore of Clarksdale.

Coahoma County’s Jaylin Jones enrolls at Mississippi School for Math, Science

COLUMBUS – The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) has accepted 130 new junior students to study in at the prestigious public high school this fall.

Jaylin Lyndell Jones from Coahoma County Jr./Sr. High School is one of those from across the state carefully selected to attend. He is the son of Nellie Jones.


Carrie Mae Broom

Carrie Mae Broom, 86, died Aug. 17, 2019.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30. Family hour is 6 to 7 p.m. at Bell Grove MBC.

Funeral is noon Saturday, Aug. 31 at Union Grove MBC with the Rev. Chuck Pollard officiating. Burial is at McLaurin Memorial Garden.

Century Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


Michael Lewin Himelstein

Michael Lewin Himelstein, 50, a computer engineer, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2019 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Meredith-Nowell Chapel with burial in the Beth Israel Cemetery.


CCHS opens at West Bolivar

Coahoma County High School football opens the season at West Bolivar at 7 p.m. Friday night.

The Red Panthers, a Region 3-2A school, were in the same district as the Eagles in 2018.

Coahoma County defeated West Bolivar in the second to last regular season game to help themselves get to the playoffs.

Highway Patrol to be out in force Labor Day

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2019 Labor Day Travel Enforcement Period on Friday, August 30 at 12:01 a.m. and conclude Monday, September 2 at midnight.

In an effort to enforce traffic laws and reduce traffic crashes, MHP will participate in Operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort during the holiday period.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.


Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.
