Frontline workers honored with food sack

Several food giveaways have taken place in Coahoma County since March when the coronavirus pandemic began causing economic problems everywhere.

Melody Ndiaye noticed one issue that had not been addressed and decided to do something about it. She organized a food giveaway for frontline workers at Sasse Park Saturday morning. Between 250 to 300 frontline workers received gift bags with a choice of a hot dog, homemade sub sandwich, pizza and fried taco.

Allen Lee Shaffer, II, 40, an Audio Technician, died Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale.


Willie V. Dawson

Willie V. Dawson, 95, of Clarksdale, born Feb. 12, 1925, died.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. May 30 with Bishop Dawson officiating. Burial was at McLaurin Memorial Garden. Visitation was 1 to 5 p.m. May 29 at Century Funeral Home.

Willie Wayne Davis Bolen was also known as “Silly Willie” by her late husband Jack Bolen and had changed her name to Betty Sue in 1955. She was the daughter of the late Alliene and Ira Wilson and the late Eddie Davis who passed away when she was a young child.
