City of Clarksdale hosting free barbecue dinner on Valentine's Day

The city of Clarksdale is inviting the public to come out and fall in love with the city of Clarksdale and its employees during an event scheduled for Valentine’s Day.

The city will be hosting a free barbecue lunch at noon Thursday at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium Annex at 506 E. Second St.


St. Elizabeth School recognizes Geography Bee winners

Shown are the winners in the recent Geography Bee held at St. Elizabeth School in Clarksdale. Fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders took part in the bee. Kyle Rawlinson, left, won first place and he will now take a test to enter the regional Geography Bee. Placing second was Bryant Johnson, center, while Ben Pennington, at right, was third.

King had impact on many, including this white Jewish journalist

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had such an impact on everyone nationwide that we continue to celebrate his birthday more than 50 years after his death.

King’s 90th birthday fell on Jan. 15 and was observed nationwide on Monday and we saw a great deal of activities throughout Clarksdale and Coahoma County.


CPD Corporal Lester to challenge Coahoma County Sheriff Jones in election

There will be a contested race for sheriff in Coahoma County this year, while the field grew among those seeking a spot on the county supervisors board.

Stacy Lester, 44, of Ohio Avenue in Clarksdale, filed candidacy papers on Monday, Jan. 28 as a Democrat seeking the office of sheriff.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
