Tens of thousands of yellow and orange cosmos, bask in the Mississippi Delta sunshine on the banks of the Sunflower River in Martin Luther King Park this week. The flowers were planted this spring and have provided the perfect place for senior pictures, family picnics and for couples just looking for a pretty vista and a quiet moment. Contractor Tommy Walton said his crew was busy Tuesday building a walking trail in the park and added the flowers should be in full bloom over the next two weeks.

Arthur Joe Moore, 47, of Clarksdale died July 8, 2020.

Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Carris Chapel Church Cemetery in Clarksdale with Pastor S.C. Collins officiating. Visitation is 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 17 at Stringer-Redmon Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksdale.

Malcolm Mabry Jr.

Malcolm Mabry, Jr. of Dublin, born in 1933, was an animal lover, farmer, teacher, artist, writer and former long-time legislator. Malcolm Mabry, Jr. died June 12, 2020 at Clarksdale Nursing Center. Malcolm was 87-years-old. He leaves behind the legacy of a life devoted to the betterment of both man and animals.


First Nursing Home Case Reported In County

Coahoma County posted its first reported case of coronavirus in a nursing home Monday, while the state saw the traditional drop in cases reported over the weekend.

Mississippi reported only one death from the disease on Monday.

Coahoma County went 118 days into the pandemic without a case of the virus reported in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility. The state’s case count for LTC’s also includes staff who test positive with the disease and not just residents of those facilities.

There have been no deaths reported in LTC’s in Coahoma County.

Funeral service is 2:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 2020 at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Luster Tyler presiding. Burial follows at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

Patricia Clark, 50, of Clarksdale died Friday, February 28, 2020 at home in Clarksdale.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at Delta Burial Funeral Home in Clarksdale.


Jonestown leaders take to streets to preach peace

JONESTOWN — After several murders caused by shootings took place in Clarksdale in recent weeks, Jonestown mayor Kenny Lester decided to take action.

Lester held a “street ministry” across from city hall where pastors and members of the Jonestown community prayed in a circle with approximately 20 individuals on Nov. 20.
