Buckle up this weekend

The Clarksdale Police Department wants everyone to enjoy Memorial Day, so buckle up.

Clarksdale Police will be participating in the nationwide Click-It-Or-Ticket campaign for the Memorial Day Weekend and will be on the lookout for residents driving in the city without proper restraint.


Lee Academy’s Etheridge, Oliver win tennis district tournaments

Lee Academy had two freshman players (Maggie Etheridge and Alexis Oliver) this season to win girls’ 1 and 2 singles at the district tournament. Alexis Oliver, last year’s number one girls’ singles player for Lee, came in second this year at North State and will play in the overall State Tournament.

Nancy Marie Hood Neely

Nancy Marie Hood Neely, 67, a retired Teacher of Coahoma County and Lee Academy, died May 9, 2019 at her home in Olive Branch.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Church of Christ in Clarksdale. Funeral services are noon Saturday at Church of Christ in Clarksdale with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery.


Sammie Williams

Sammie Williams, 74, of Clarksdale died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

A public viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2019 at Delta Burial Funeral Home on 615 South State St. in Clarksdale.


Noel Monaghan Russell

Noel Monaghan Russell, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in Stuart, Fla., from complications from a heart attack he suffered several days earlier.

Noel was born in Clarksdale on June 24, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs.  James A. Russell, Jr. and raised on his family’s farm near Jonestown.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
