Tens of thousands of yellow and orange cosmos, bask in the Mississippi Delta sunshine on the banks of the Sunflower River in Martin Luther King Park this week. The flowers were planted this spring and have provided the perfect place for senior pictures, family picnics and for couples just looking for a pretty vista and a quiet moment. Contractor Tommy Walton said his crew was busy Tuesday building a walking trail in the park and added the flowers should be in full bloom over the next two weeks.

Safety is Job One in any organization but especially when it comes to city parks and the kids and parents who play there.
The Clarksdale Parks and Recreation Department recently held a series of job safety classes to teach workers how to be safe and also how to spot hazards that might hurt those who use city parks.

After reporting no new cases Thursday, Coahoma County saw three new cases of COVID-19 reported Friday. There have been 10 new local cases over the past seven days and the county’s third death was reported Tuesday.
The county now has 64 people who have had or who are currently infected with the disease
A single car accident west of Clarksdale Sunday has killed one and seriously injured another.
The accident occurred about 11 a.m. Sunday on Friars Point Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene.
Coahoma Early College High School announced Sunday afternoon it would extend its spring break at least an extra week in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Betty Pike, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 in Round Lake Beach, Ill.
Betty was born in Drew on Oct. 6, 1933. She owned and operated Nellie May's gift shop in Clarksdale for many years. She also ran Kathryn’s on Moon Lake with her husband Bob. Betty was a lifelong animal lover and will be missed by her dog Baby.
As part of a makeover effort, the city of Clarksdale will spend over $1 million in the next few months and ask the city’s taxpayers to foot the bill over the next 10 years, starting with their tax bill in 2019.
JONESTOWN — After several murders caused by shootings took place in Clarksdale in recent weeks, Jonestown mayor Kenny Lester decided to take action.
Lester held a “street ministry” across from city hall where pastors and members of the Jonestown community prayed in a circle with approximately 20 individuals on Nov. 20.
