City of Clarksdale hosting free barbecue dinner on Valentine's Day

The city of Clarksdale is inviting the public to come out and fall in love with the city of Clarksdale and its employees during an event scheduled for Valentine’s Day.

The city will be hosting a free barbecue lunch at noon Thursday at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium Annex at 506 E. Second St.


St. Elizabeth School recognizes Geography Bee winners

Kyle Rawlinson, left, won first place and he will now take a test to enter the regional Geography Bee. Placing second was Bryant Johnson, center, while Ben Pennington, at right, was third.

New downtown business will be combination of deli, butcher, restaurant

You’ll soon be able to go to a deli/butcher/restaurant where you can pick out your choice of fresh meat from a Mississippi farm and have a top chef cook it up for you under a new concept coming to downtown Clarksdale.

The Hooker Grocer + Eatery will open Monday, Nov. 19 at 316 John Hooker Lane.

Jonestown mayor Kenneth Lester arrested on five counts of embezzlement

Jonestown mayor Kenny Lester is facing up to 100 years in prison after being arrested by the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Dec. 9 for allegedly embezzling residents’ water bill payments and a city police firearm, announced Attorney General Jim Hood on Tuesday, Dec. 11 in a press release.
