Broomfield leads way as Lady Wildcats win district

Senior guard Patrice Broomfield was the leading scorer in both games as the Clarksdale High School girls won the district tournament championship in Greenwood last week.

Winning the tournament put the Lady Wildcats (20-8, 7-1) in the Class 4A playoffs and they opened with a 59-24 win at home against North Pontotoc Monday night.

Blues highlight film fest

Clarksdale blues music and musicians was the team of two evening features at the 10th annual Clarksdale Film Festival Friday and Saturday nights.

“Walk with Me: Lucious Spiller, Called to Sing the Blues” played Friday at Grandma’s Sports Bar and “The Blues Trail Revisited: A Documentary Memoir” played Saturday.

State auditor issues more than $1.1 million in demands; Former tourism director Allen, former CCC employees indicted

JACKSON – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from the Auditor’s office have made arrests in two separate cases after a grand jury assembled by District Attorney for the 11th District Brenda Mitchell indicted Gwendolyn Jefferson, Stacie Neal, and Kappi Allen.

Rufus Thompson, 56, died June 15, 2019 at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. He was born Sept. 11, 1962 in Marks.

Funeral services were noon Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Valley Queen M.B. Church in Marks. Burial was at Booker Cemetery in Marks.

Century Funeral Home directed funeral services.

Willie Williams, 66, died Oct. 24, 2019 at Saint Francis Hospital - Memphis. Funeral services are noon Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Luster Tyler officiating. Burial is at McLaurin Memorial Garden. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at Century Funeral Home.
