FLOYD INGRAM: Look at downtown Clarksdale

Clarksdale really has a lot of good things going on downtown and that was evident in the first festival of the year this past weekend.

I’ve never been a movie buff or video buff in the current lingo, but we are a visual, video culture. It was great to see downtown Clarksdale full of tourist again Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

State auditor issues more than $1.1 million in demands; Former tourism director Allen, former CCC employees indicted

JACKSON – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from the Auditor’s office have made arrests in two separate cases after a grand jury assembled by District Attorney for the 11th District Brenda Mitchell indicted Gwendolyn Jefferson, Stacie Neal, and Kappi Allen.

Mary Nell Roland

Mary Nell Roland, 86, a Retired School Teacher and Tennis Coach, died Monday, September 23, 2019 at home. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at First United Methodist in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at First United Methodist in Clarksdale with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery.


Ellen Ginsberg

Ellen Tabor Ginsberg, 94, of Dallas, a homemaker, died April 29, 2018, at The Traymore Nursing Center in Dallas.

Visitation was held Thursday May 3, 2018, at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Graveside services were Thursday at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.



Tame turtles remembered

There are times when a writer is too explicit.

The first time it happened to me was right here in Clarksdale. The Clarksdale High School Wildcats played a football game in Corinth one Friday night and were beaten handily. As I remember it, the score was 36-6. The headline I wrote said: “Tame Turtles lose to Corinth, 36-6.”
