Coahoma County went 118 days into the pandemic without a case of the virus reported in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility. The state’s case count for LTC’s also includes staff who test positive with the disease and not just residents of those facilities.
There have been no deaths reported in LTC’s in Coahoma County.
The crush started at Walmart Thursday night as the community geared up for Gov. Tate Reeves' order to shelter in place until April 20.
The store was filled with people and sheriff’s deputies were called to enforce a one-person, one-buggy rule.
Coahoma County saw no new cases of COVID-19 reported Monday and it was the first time the local number has not increased since the first case was reported March 18.
The county currently has 38 confirmed cases of the disease and one fatality attributed to the disease on April 4.

Ronald Johnson, 57, of Clarksdale died Monday, April 6, 2020 at Highland of Memphis Nursing Home in Memphis.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.

Dillard Dee Melton, Sr., 86, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at his home in Tutwiler.
Mr. Dillard was a workaholic, avid hunter and cotton grower who lived and breathed farming.

Visitation will also be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Meredith-Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale with burial in the Memorial Gardens.

When I think of our community, the phrase that comes to mind is “sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
It’s summer in Mississippi. Sunshine is plentiful. But when you take a closer look at Clarksdale, there are many dark corners in need of sunlight.
