Clarksdale native Dr. Reed Hogan proposes treatment for COVID-19

JACKSON -- It began with a treatment for skin inflammation. Then, Reed Hogan II, MD, began pondering if an inexpensive, available, over-the-counter treatment might also work in severe gastrointestinal illness, much of it caused by inflammation.

The Clarksdale native was seeing success. Then, COVID-19 hit.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2020 at McLaurin Memorial Garden in Clarksdale.

Jimmy Lee Davis, 51, died Dec. 6, 2019 on Highway 49. He was born Oct. 19, 1968.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 at Clarksdale Civic Auditorium. Burial is at McLaurin Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2019 at Century Funeral Home.

Clarksdale native Blackburn honored with scholarship at alma mater

Clarksdale native Judith Goodwin Blackburn served with excellence for 37 years at the Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company in Mississippi.

A Mississippi College accounting graduate, Blackburn worked as the company’s senior vice president and chief financial officer at the time of her passing in Jackson in July 2018.


Broomfield leads way as Lady Wildcats win district

Senior guard Patrice Broomfield was the leading scorer in both games as the Clarksdale High School girls won the district tournament championship in Greenwood last week.

Winning the tournament put the Lady Wildcats (20-8, 7-1) in the Class 4A playoffs and they opened with a 59-24 win at home against North Pontotoc Monday night.
