The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2020 Fourth of July Holiday Enforcement Period on Friday, July 3, at 12:01 a.m. and conclude Sunday, July 5, at midnight.
An accident occurred in downtown Clarksdale on the corner of East Second Street and Delta Avenue at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Members of the Clarksdale Police Department and Pafford Emergency Medical Services were at the scene.
It was a busy weekend for the Clarksdale Police Department with a man shot in the chest another hit in the leg, a car stolen and five reports of shots fired.
All are currently under investigation and the community is being asked to help solve these crimes, help police make an arrest and stop the violence.

Coahoma County saw no new cases of COVID-19 reported Monday and it was the first time the local number has not increased since the first case was reported March 18.
The county currently has 38 confirmed cases of the disease and one fatality attributed to the disease on April 4.
Police are trained to make split second decisions.

Derlene Davis Patterson passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the age of 89. She was cared for by Caris Hospice at NHC in Columbia, S.C., as her Alzheimer’s advanced. A Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2020 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Graveside services are at 10 a.m.
Betty Pike, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 in Round Lake Beach, Ill.
Betty was born in Drew on Oct. 6, 1933. She owned and operated Nellie May's gift shop in Clarksdale for many years. She also ran Kathryn’s on Moon Lake with her husband Bob. Betty was a lifelong animal lover and will be missed by her dog Baby.
