Watch for tractors on the road this spring

Mississippi farmers are gearing up for the 2018 growing season, which means everyone needs to be prepared to share the road with tractors and other equipment.

Patrick Poindexter, Alcorn County coordinator with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, said being aware and patient can keep everyone safe.

State auditor issues more than $1.1 million in demands; Former tourism director Allen, former CCC employees indicted

JACKSON – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from the Auditor’s office have made arrests in two separate cases after a grand jury assembled by District Attorney for the 11th District Brenda Mitchell indicted Gwendolyn Jefferson, Stacie Neal, and Kappi Allen.

Ann Tomlinson Barnett

GERMANTOWN, TENN.—Ann Tomlinson Barnett, 93, of Germantown, Tenn., passed away Oct. 29, 2019 at Regional One Health Medical Center. Born in Helena, Ark. on Jan. 22, 1926 to Mr. & Mrs. E.P. Tomlinson, she grew up in Clarksdale.


Robert Garner McDaniel

Robert Garner McDaniel, 85, retired from Grenada Farms, passed away April 27, 2019 at his home. Visitation is Saturday May 4, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery.



Richard Ira Gates

Richard Ira Gates, 60, Clarksdale died March 17, 2020 at his residence. Public viewing is from 2 to 5 p.m. March 27, 2020 at Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home. Funeral service is 1 p.m. March 28, 2020 at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Burial follows at Heavenly Rest

Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Hornburger-Byas Funeral Home.


Two former county supervisors Burrel, Furr remembered

Two longstanding members of the Coahoma County Board of Supervisors, who made contributions to the community for many decades, died Friday, March 8.

Katherine Furr, 89, who represented District 5 on the board for 15 years, died late Friday.

Timothy Burrel, 76, who represented District 3 for 19 years, died earlier in the day.
