Police investigate shots fired, aggravated assault

The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating two incidents where shots were fired into a home and one where a man was shot.

All three shootings were reported in the space of about 30 minutes Friday night. 

Clarksdale Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez has asked anyone with information about these incidents to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911. All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving these crimes or any other felony in the community.



Leroy Hubert Owens

Leroy Hubert Owens, 96, of Union City, Tenn., formerly of Clarksdale passed away at the Obion County Nursing home, on June 16, 2020.

Graveside services will be held in Clarksdale at Oakridge Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 with Dr. Cecil Sewell officiating.



As COVID-19 cases fall, Clarksdale considers mandatory masks

While COVID-19 is still out there, Mississippi is reporting single digit fatality numbers again and Coahoma County has only had six new cases in a week.

The Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioner will consider making people in the public wear masks at it regular board meeting Monday.

James Glovery Garrison

James Glovery Garrison, 78, who was retired from North Delta Compress, died July 12, 2018, at Diversicare of Batesville.

A visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday July 17, 2018, at Meredith-Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale with burial in the Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Johnson and Dequan Street are shining in the spotlight after giving impressive performances on the gridiron.
