Broomfield leads way as Lady Wildcats win district

Senior guard Patrice Broomfield was the leading scorer in both games as the Clarksdale High School girls won the district tournament championship in Greenwood last week.

Winning the tournament put the Lady Wildcats (20-8, 7-1) in the Class 4A playoffs and they opened with a 59-24 win at home against North Pontotoc Monday night.

FLOYD INGRAM: Look at downtown Clarksdale

Clarksdale really has a lot of good things going on downtown and that was evident in the first festival of the year this past weekend.

I’ve never been a movie buff or video buff in the current lingo, but we are a visual, video culture. It was great to see downtown Clarksdale full of tourist again Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Martha Hatchett

Martha Hatchett, 74, of Clarksdale died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at Merit Health Hospital in Clarksdale.

A viewing will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Delta Burial Funeral Home in Clarksdale.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale.


Curtis D. Morton

Curtis D. Morton, 57, both in September 1962, died Feb. 13, 2020 in Nebraska.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at Mt. Oliver Church in Jonestown with the Rev. Coleman presiding. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Century Funeral Home.

Century Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Coahoma County’s Jaylin Jones enrolls at Mississippi School for Math, Science

COLUMBUS – The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) has accepted 130 new junior students to study in at the prestigious public high school this fall.

Jaylin Lyndell Jones from Coahoma County Jr./Sr. High School is one of those from across the state carefully selected to attend. He is the son of Nellie Jones.

Ellen Tabor Ginsberg, 94, of Dallas, a homemaker, died April 29, 2018, at The Traymore Nursing Center in Dallas.

Visitation was held Thursday May 3, 2018, at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Graveside services were Thursday at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale.

Joani Karololine Howell

Joani Karololine Howell, 39, received her angel wings on Friday, May 4, 2018, at her home in Memphis, Tenn.

Joani was welcomed on this earth by her parents, Joey and Lawanda Howell of Sardis, on Oct. 28, 1979.

She was a native of Batesville and attended South Panola High School.
