State auditor issues more than $1.1 million in demands; Former tourism director Allen, former CCC employees indicted

JACKSON – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from the Auditor’s office have made arrests in two separate cases after a grand jury assembled by District Attorney for the 11th District Brenda Mitchell indicted Gwendolyn Jefferson, Stacie Neal, and Kappi Allen.



State Supreme Court issues ruling in costly conflict between city, county

Residents in two areas north of Clarksdale will continue to be county residents and not be annexed into the city after a ruling issued by the state’s highest court last week.

The ruling apparently puts an end to a land tussle that dates back eight years and could end up costing local taxpayers nearly $1.5 million.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.


Sunflower River crests, but high waters remain

It appears the Sunflower River peaked at nearly 22 and a half feet in downtown Clarksdale at about 9 p.m. Sunday before starting a slow withdrawal.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, the river was at 22.35 feet and starting a slow, steady descent, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's river gage located at downtown Clarksdale.
