City of Clarksdale hosting free barbecue dinner on Valentine's Day

The city of Clarksdale is inviting the public to come out and fall in love with the city of Clarksdale and its employees during an event scheduled for Valentine’s Day.

The city will be hosting a free barbecue lunch at noon Thursday at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium Annex at 506 E. Second St.


St. Elizabeth School recognizes Geography Bee winners

Kyle Rawlinson, left, won first place and he will now take a test to enter the regional Geography Bee. Placing second was Bryant Johnson, center, while Ben Pennington, at right, was third.

Martha Harrell, 63, of Clarksdale, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Woolf Funeral Home at 761 McKinley St. in Clarksdale.

CPU customers ask state official for help with high utility bills

Local residents have taken issue with high Clarksdale Public Utilities bills and Brandon Presley from the Mississippi Public Service Commission northern district heard the concerns and provided local citizens with options in a public hearing held at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium on Tuesday night.



Incumbent Webster faces challenger Felton for circuit court judge's seat

Charlie Webster, 64, is running for his fourth term as circuit court judge.

Webster, a 1972 Clarksdale High School graduate, graduated from Mississippi State University in 1976 and Ole Miss law school in 1979.

“Born and raised here,” Webster said. “Lived here all my life. It is my community.”


Clarksdale man charged with possession of stolen firearms

A Clarksdale man was arrested Monday, Jan. 7 and charged with the possession of two rifles that were reported stolen from cars parked outside two Clarksdale homes in December.

Kenyalla Matthews, 19, was arrested around 2:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of State Street in Clarksdale and charged with possession of stolen firearms.


Mary Marshall Summers

Mary Marshall Summers, 48, of Clarksdale, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at her residence.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Delta Burial funeral home at 429 Yazoo Ave. in Clarksdale.

Shortly after attending Clarksdale crime forum, man shot during robbery

Less than an hour after he’d attended a community meeting on crime Monday night, a 44-year-old Clarksdale man was shot multiple times during a robbery at his home.

Darry Jenkins sustained several gunshot wounds in the robbery at his residence along the 400 block of Garfield Street.
