Broomfield leads way as Lady Wildcats win district

Senior guard Patrice Broomfield was the leading scorer in both games as the Clarksdale High School girls won the district tournament championship in Greenwood last week.

Winning the tournament put the Lady Wildcats (20-8, 7-1) in the Class 4A playoffs and they opened with a 59-24 win at home against North Pontotoc Monday night.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Feb. 22, 2020 at First Apostolic Faith Temple with Elder Samuel Melton presiding. Burial is at McLaurin Memorial Garden. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020.

Coahoma County’s Jaylin Jones enrolls at Mississippi School for Math, Science

COLUMBUS – The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) has accepted 130 new junior students to study in at the prestigious public high school this fall.

Jaylin Lyndell Jones from Coahoma County Jr./Sr. High School is one of those from across the state carefully selected to attend. He is the son of Nellie Jones.

Martha Mae Wilder Jenkins, 78, of Clarksdale died Oct. 25, 2019 at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at Union Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Sammie Collins will officiate. Burial is at  Carr’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at Century Funeral Home.

Battle of Wildcats

Clarksdale High School is on the road for the second round of the postseason when it travels to Louisville at 7 p.m. Friday.

For the Clarksdale Wildcats (7-4, 3-1), they are coming off of a 21-16 home in in the first round of the playoffs against Itawamba Agricultural High School.
