Julia V. Maeweather, 82, of Marks, born in October 1937, died.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 with the Rev. Williams officiating. Graveside is at Booker Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2020 at Century Funeral Home.

Coahoma County was deemed a COVID-19 hot spot this week and Governor Tate Reeves has declared our county one of 10 that should delay the start of school.

And when we called local school superintendents yesterday to find out their views on the governor’s plans, we discovered they were ready to delay and would transition just fine.

Tens of thousands of yellow and orange cosmos, bask in the Mississippi Delta sunshine on the banks of the Sunflower River in Martin Luther King Park this week. The flowers were planted this spring and have provided the perfect place for senior pictures, family picnics and for couples just looking for a pretty vista and a quiet moment. Contractor Tommy Walton said his crew was busy Tuesday building a walking trail in the park and added the flowers should be in full bloom over the next two weeks.
