Commissioner Brandon Presley announced Thursday that Mississippi legislators passed the Mississippi Electric Cooperatives Broadband COVID-19 Act. This legislation will establish a $75 million grant program for the immediate deployment of fiber broadband infrastructure in unserved areas.

Several food giveaways have taken place in Coahoma County since March when the coronavirus pandemic began causing economic problems everywhere.
Melody Ndiaye noticed one issue that had not been addressed and decided to do something about it. She organized a food giveaway for frontline workers at Sasse Park Saturday morning. Between 250 to 300 frontline workers received gift bags with a choice of a hot dog, homemade sub sandwich, pizza and fried taco.

Betty Pike, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 in Round Lake Beach, Ill.
Betty was born in Drew on Oct. 6, 1933. She owned and operated Nellie May's gift shop in Clarksdale for many years. She also ran Kathryn’s on Moon Lake with her husband Bob. Betty was a lifelong animal lover and will be missed by her dog Baby.
