Jeraldine Gregory Orman, 91, of Tutwiler, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Thursday, June 11, 2020. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at First Baptist Church in Tutwiler with services beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery, also in Tutwiler. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Jerry, as she was known to most people, was born on August 8, 1928, to Nim Addison and Bertha Quillin Gregory and grew up in Hollandale.
She attended Delta State College where she was a Delta State beauty. It was there that she met her future husband, Samuel Bruister Orman. They were married on December 21, 1947. They settled in Tutwiler where they raised their children; Diane, Joy and Bruister (Bruce).
Jerry was a dedicated, hard worker. She worked for 48 years in the Bank of Sumner, seeing the name change from Sunburst Bank, to Union Planters Bank, to Regions Bank, before retiring in 1993.
She was active in church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Training Union. She served as church hostess and was the church bookkeeper.
She was a devoted wife and loving, caring mother. She loved to cook and sew. She was very proud of her family. She was “Memama” to eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Diane Orman Smith (Hugh) of Cleveland, Joy Orman Sossaman (John) of Tutwiler and Samuel Bruister Orman (“Bruce”) of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Samuel Bruister Orman, Sr., her parents and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Cam Smith, Rush Smith, Reeves Smith, Ruston Sossaman, Tristan Orman and close family member Carroll Lafayette Bruister, III (“Cally”).
Memorials may be sent to Rosemound Cemetery, c/o Joy Sossaman, 1957 Highway 3, Tutwiler, MS, 38963, First Baptist Church of Tutwiler, or the charity of your choice.
