Clarksdale First Presbyterian Church brings nativity scene to life

For more than 50 years, people have come to the First Presybterian Church in Clarksdale on the nights before Christmas in hopes of seeing the enactment of Jesus Christ’s birth in a Bethlehem stable.

A steady, cold rain that fell Wednesday night, Dec. 19 didn’t deter onlookers and participants in this year’s live nativity scene.


Willie Allen Williams

Willie Allen Williams, 95, a retired South Central Bell operator for 33 years, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at Methodist University Hospital Central in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. Williams was an active member of Clarksdale Baptist Church and the Euzlian Bible Class. She was a member of the Homemaker’s Club and the Woman’s Club. 



Ronald Wayne Shannon

Ronald Wayne Shannon, 55, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Survivors include his parents, A.C. and Mildred Gordon Shannon.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Shannon.


Betty Lou Stribling

Betty Lou Stribling, 90, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at the Greenbough Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksdale. 

Mrs. Stribling was born in Clarksdale on Aug. 7, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Farrar Huffman Cannon and Mary Ella Findley Cannon.



Jerry Lamar Farish

Jerry Lamar Farish, 67, a retired truck owner and electrician/maintenance employee at SA, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at his home in Grenada.

Mr. Farish was a member of the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, VFW in Clarksdale and Marine Corps League in Clarksdale. He served his country in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps.




William Edward 'Billy' Pegram

William Edward “Billy” Pegram, 85, of Dundee, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, surrounded by his family. 

During his long and full life, he was a farmer, businessman, politician and avid outdoorsman.  He served as a supervisor of Tunica County for five terms and was a member of the Tunica United Methodist Church. 


Dickie D. Harris

Dickie D. Harris, 84, a retired salesman, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at his home in Clarksdale surrounded by his loving family. 

Mr. Harris was a dedicated member of Riverside Baptist Church. He always enjoyed time with his family.




Donald Smith, Jr.

Donald Smith, Jr., 59, a retired machinist and welder from Lyon, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors.  He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
