Hembree Brandon

Hembree B. Brandon, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

A native of New Albany, he was public relations manager for the state Highway Department’s Northern District (1956-‘61) and editor of the Winona Times (1963-’73).



Sadie Dill

Sadie Dill, 89, of Lambert, died Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Quitman County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marks.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, at noon at the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale with the Rev. L.C. Tyler II officiating. Burial will be private.


Spring Initiative students spending Spring Break in Nashville

Big Spring, which is a group of seventh- through 10th-graders in the local Spring Initiative program, are spending Wednesday and Thursday in Nashville as part of their spring break in an effort to expand their horizons.

All 14 children will be participating in the High Ropes obstacle course, which is a team-building exercise.




Dennis Davis

Dennis Davis, 55, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 15, 2019, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Woolf Funeral Home at 761 McKinley St. in Clarksdale.



Best-selling author Iles returns to Clarksdale with 'Cemetery Road'

Greg Iles has had 15 books appear on the New York Times best-sellers list, including one that reached number one. The Mississippi-raised author has had one of his novels made into a film and his work’s been published in more than 35 countries.

Yet, he readily admits, he’s still to write that “one great book.”


Timothy Burrel

Timothy Burrel -- a soldier, leader, educator, entrepreneur and, most of all, a loving devoted husband and father – died Friday, March 8, 2019, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was 76 years old.

Timothy was born on Feb. 18, 1943, in Lyon to the Rev. George and Rosie Burrel, who preceded him in death.



Lee McGarrh, Jr.

Lee McGarrh, Jr., 69, of Perkinston, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee McGarrh, Sr. and Earline C. McGarrh.
