A senior at Coahoma County High School and collegiate prospect, Shuniia Wrenn is at the top of her game. Recently a member of the 2019 Girls’ Delta Valley Conference Champions, Wrenn serves as the third leg on the girls’ 4x100 meter relay team, runs the meters and also long jumps.
Last Thursday, Coahoma’s renowned high school coach received the one award missing from his arsenal. Mississippi High School Activities Association, Inc. awarded Derrick Moore of Coahoma County High School “Coach of the Year” for boys’ basketball.
Clarksdale resident Alcorn Russell has been at a disadvantage for several years, but that did not stop him from winning the 2018 Magnolia Mississippi Chapter of Safari Club International Greg Kitchens Outstanding Hunter Award.

There were so many upsets and one-point games in the NCAA basketball tournament this year it was unreal.
It made for what may be the most exciting NCAA basketball tournament in history.
The Coahoma Baseball squad started a three-team MACJC road trip against Northeast Mississippi Community College in "The Battle of the Tigers." They had a tough start and could not recover as Northeast swept the doubleheader with a pair of 11-1 victories.
With a 7-2 record for the season, the Lady Wildcats softball team continues to develop as the season progresses. Clarksdale split Tuesday’s double header 1-1 against Yazoo City, starting off strong (obtaining most of their runs due to advancements from stolen bases) and winning the first game 10-8; then losing the second 16-8.
In Saturday’s Delta Valley Conference meet, the Coahoma County High School girls’ track and field team took home the trophy and the boys’ team placed 4th. “I was a little unsure about this meet, because I knew I was going in without a couple of my fastest runners,” says coach Derrick Moore.
I hope the skeptics are happy now. The usual suspects have been replaced.

There will be a new sheriff in town when the new NCAA Basketball champion is crowned this year.
Coahoma met some highs and lows in the 2018 football season. Head Coach Steven Miller is pressing forward to make a significant improvement in 2019. The Tigers hit the field for spring practice this week to in preparation for the upcoming football season this fall.
