Lee girls beat DeSoto, now 2-1

The Lee Academy varsity girls basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 66-57 win a home against DeSoto School from Helena-West Helena, Ark., Tuesday night.
Emily Moser led the Fillies with 17 points followed by Nyriah Artis with 12.
The Fillies also defeated Indianola Academy 43-10 Nov. 10.

Accident occurs in downtown Clarksdale

An accident occurred in downtown Clarksdale on the corner of East Second Street and Delta Avenue at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Members of the Clarksdale Police Department and Pafford Emergency Medical Services were at the scene.

New rivalry

Clarksdale and Coahoma Early College high schools will play one another for the first time in the history of the two local schools Friday night.

The matchup is set for 7 p.m. at Coahoma Community College.

Both teams played in jamboree games at CCC last week and won.

Lee hosting Magnolia Heights Friday

Lee Academy won both of its home jamboree games on Friday night.

Quarterback Russell Cook threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Phillip Brownlee to give the Colts a 6-0 win against Tunica Academy.

In a 13-0 win against Marshall Academy, Gage Murphy had a 4-yard touchdown run and Cook recovered a fumble on defense for the touchdown.

Coahoma among counties to benefit from upgrades to rural electric system

U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) announced Tuesday, April 9 the award of a $148.8 million loan to a Hattiesburg-based rural electric partnership to finance system upgrades for a rural electric system serving 55 Mississippi counties, including Coahoma County.
