An infant, grandmother and grandfather were hit by gunfire after their home on Cuyahoga was the target of thugs Monday night, July 22..
“I had just put the baby down and was going to bed myself when it started,” said the grandmother, who asked not to be identified. “We’ve only been living here a month. I don’t know why they would do this.”
The incident occurred in the 800 block of Cuyahoga Street, on Monday July 22, at about 10:25 p.m., when multiple shots were fired in two separate incidents just blocks apart.
Officers responded and found the home had been hit multiple times. Those in the area counted 17 shots.
An adult male was shot in the foot, an adult female was hit twice in the hip and the infant was shot in the back.
Police said all injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
No arrest was reported and police were not given a motive for the shooting.
The Clarksdale Police Department reported 438 calls over the past two weeks, generating 202 incident reports, 32 arrests, with four of those being felony arrests and three involving juveniles. The department also issued 33 citations and worked 14 vehicle accidents.

Shooting into a Dwelling:
• 500 block of Cherry Street, On Monday July 22, 2024 at about 12:39 a.m., officers responded to a residence of a subject that had been shot. Upon arrival, it was a discovered that a residence in the 500 block of Cherry Street had been shot into and male subject was shot in the foot. There were no other injuries.
Aggravated Assault:
• 1800 Block of North State Street, On Friday July 19, 2024, at between 5 and 5:30 p.m., a female reported that her vehicle was shot into while she was traveling in the 1800 block of North State Street. The female was treated for her injuries sustained from broken glass.
Residential Burglary:
• First block of 17th Street, no items taken.
Auto Burglary:
• 1400 Block of Sunset Circle, three cigars and a handgun taken.
• 400 block of Ashton Street, unknown items taken.
• 100 block of 15th Street, a baseball cap, a jacket, and a pair of flip flops were taken.
Shots Fired:
• 600 block of Garfield St.
• 1400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
