Lee Academy senior Chris Butler finished with three rebounds, one block and one assist for the White team en route to a 94-90 victory against the Blue team in the MSAIS All-Star Game at Jackson Prep.
“It was a good experience,” said Butler reflecting on the game. “We got to meet new people. We got to make new friends and play a big game like that.
“I loved it. I made new friends and everything.”
Butler specifically said he made new friends from Hartfield Academy and Bowling Green School.
Butler found the competition to be much tougher in the All-Star Game than a regular basketball game.
“It was way different, taller and bigger guys, better people,” he said.
The Colts played an up-tempo style of basketball throughout the season, but there were no set plays in the All-Star Game.
“It was different,” Butler said. “He just let us play regular basketball, no plays or anything. He just told us to go and have fun.”
Butler, a 6-foot, 4-inch center, said his best play of the game came on the defensive side of the ball when he made his block.
“It was pretty interesting,” Butler said. “The guy was way taller than me and I had to jump a little.”
The player whose shot Butler blocked was 6-5.
Butler is a three-sport athlete who plays football, basketball and baseball.
While his basketball career came to an end with the All-Star Game, he still has the remainder of the baseball season to look forward to. He hopes to play football in college, but he does not know what school he will be going to.
“I haven’t made my final decision yet,” Butler said.
Butler said he plans to stay in shape by working out during the summer and he is having fun playing baseball.
“I’m enjoying it,” Butler said. “It keeps me busy. It keeps me in shape for whatever sport I prepare for in college.”
