The Clarksdale Police Department has recovered a vehicle stolen in a carjacking at a local church and their investigation has also led to the arrest of two people for a drive-by shooting.
On Friday, Oct. 13, police received a tip on the stolen 2021 Toyota Tundra that was reported stolen in an armed robbery and carjacking on Oct. 10. In that incident three armed men approached people leaving a church on Chestnut Street, demanded money, cellphones and the keys to the vehicle.
The victims, who were not injured in the incident, complied and the the thieves drove away in the truck.
The truck was located in a wooded area in the 400 block of Illinois Street.
While Investigators were on scene of the recovered stolen vehicle, a barrage of gunshots were heard in the area.
As officers responded to the gunfire, Clarksdale Police received numerous calls of shots fired in the 400 block of Magnolia Court and the 500 block of Florida Street.
Based on information provided to officers, two suspects were taken into custody and weapons were recovered.
The suspects were identified as Matthew Mixon, 20, and Quincy Worthan, Jr., 20.
Both men have been charged with two counts of Drive-by Shootings, two counts of Shooting into a Dwelling, and one count of Shooting into a Vehicle. Both were processed at the Clarksdale Police Department and transported to the Coahoma County Jail, pending an initial appearance.
