The Clarksdale Police Department has reported two armed robberies in Clarksdale in the space of five hours Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Armed robbery is a violent felony and is among the most serious crimes in Mississippi.
Armed robbery can carry a stiffer sentence than manslaughter, aggravated DUI causing death, drug trafficking, shootings, and some forms of murder, if the police can catch the culprit and if the court convicts them.
On Monday evening Nov. 27, at around 8:50 p.m., police responded to Shady Nook Truck Stop located at 16774 Highway 61 North in reference to an Armed Robbery.
The clerk reported an unknown male entered the business, pointed a weapon at them and demanded cash and Black and Mild Cigars.
The clerk complied and the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately six-feet in height, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes and a face mask. The suspect left the scene headed south in a white vehicle.
Later that night at around 12:56 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, police responded to Double Quick Convenient Store located at 1909 North State Street in reference to an Armed Robbery.
With a long gun wrapped in a sheet, the robber demanded the clerk give him money from the registers; the clerk complied, the robber left the parking lot on foot.
The robber was described as a black male, approximately 5-foot, 7-inches tall, wearing a black ski mask and a navy-blue puffy coat.
Armed robbery can carry up to life in prison, served day-for-day, without parole.
A person can be convicted of armed robbery even if he just makes an attempt.
Armed robbery, as the name implies, requires the use of a deadly weapon in the robbery. Examples of deadly weapons can include firearms, knives, baseball bats, bricks, golf clubs, broken bottles, and even automobiles.
