The Memphis National Weather Service (NWD) has issued a Severe Weather Advisory for Sunday night, March 30, 2025, through Monday morning, covering the entire Mid-South region, including Coahoma County.
The risk level is enhanced meaning on a scale of 5, the chance of a severe thunderstorm is a 3. The threat is damaging winds, hail and the potential for a few tornadoes.
The weather is expected to move through Coahoma County from about 9 p.m. Sunday into early Monday morning. The storm is expected to come out of the northwest and may down trees and powerlines. The forecast calls for isolated supercells to develop ahead of the line and are the most concern since they may spawn tornadoes.
NWS reminds residents this is a forecast and there is a 56% chance that a layer of warm air above the surface could inhibit storm development, potentially reducing the severe weather impacts in Coahoma County.
"The Coahoma County Emergency Management Agency will continue to monitor the Severe Weather Probabilities and provide updates as needed," said Coahoma County EMS Director Charles Hale. "We urge residents to remain vigilant, monitor local weather updates, and take necessary precautions to stay safe. As always, our priority is the safety and well-being of our community, and we will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves."
Residents are urged to stay weather alert, have a plan to get to an inner room or safe place in the event of a severe storm and contact 911 immediately if they spot a tornado. Trees falling over roads should be reported immediately.
Downed power lines should be reported to your power supplier immediately.
Damage should be reported to the Coahoma County Emergency Management Agency as soon as possible to assist in storm recovery.
