Hurricane Francine became a tropical storm before it passed over the Mississippi Delta and there were no major reports of damage and no injuries reported by the Coahoma County Emergency Management Agency this morning as a result of the storm.
The weather did see an average of 1.5-inches of rain fall on the county and sustained winds of 20-25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph reported at times.
“There are no significant incidents to report,” said Charles Hale, Director of Coahoma County EMA. Tropical Depression Francine had minimal impact on Coahoma County. No damages or power outages were reported.”
Hale said there were no power outages reported and no evacuation orders issued and therefore no shelter was set up.
The rain did affect crops ready for harvest and will keep farmers out of the fields for a few days. Creeks and low lying areas were swelled by rains.
Anyone who suffered any kind of storm damage is urged to report it to EMA office at (662) 624-3041. That data is used to obtain state and federal disaster relief funds for the community.
There are currently no severe weather threats for the area as of Friday.
Showers are likely between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with cloudy skies and a high near 72-degrees today. Winds are from the south at 5 to 10 mph, with a 70-percent chance of precipitation. Expected rainfall is less than a tenth of an inch.
Rain is expected to move in tonight and showers are expected Saturday morning, partly sunny weather Saturday afternoon and showers Saturday at dusk.
Showers are forecast to return Sunday morning with sunny skies late in the afternoon.
