What Has Changed:
There have been no significant changes to the forecast since the previous briefing.
Coahoma County remains under a Winter Storm Warning and Cold Weather Advisory through Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM CST.
Road Conditions & Travel Advisory
Heavy accumulating sleet, and ice have created hazardous travel conditions across county roads and city streets throughout Coahoma County. Road surfaces are slick and dangerous, particularly on bridges, overpasses, shaded areas, and untreated secondary roads.
Residents are strongly encouraged to stay indoors and avoid all unnecessary travel. Emergency travel should be limited to essential needs only.
Evening Weather Transition
Sleet is expected to transition to freezing rain later this evening, increasing the risk of rapid ice accumulation on roadways, power lines, trees, and exposed surfaces.
Freezing Rain Concerns
Freezing rain is especially dangerous because of this:
- Creates a nearly invisible layer of ice on roads and sidewalks
- Causes extreme loss of traction, even at low speeds
- Increases the risk of vehicle crashes, falls, and injuries
- May result in downed trees, power lines, and power outages
Conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly after sunset, with temperatures remaining below freezing.
