My wife and I were contracted to do seat belt and child restraint surveys many years ago. We continue to survey each year at certain times however we are always looking to see if people are wearing their seatbelts or talking on their cell phones.
Safety issues are big concerns for our government officials and they use these surveys to create better laws and methods of safety for everyone. Texting and driving, talking on cell phones and driving, or not wearing seat belts continue to be big issues in today’s society. Even though there are laws forbidding these actions people don’t seem to care and everyone is in a hurry to get where they are going.
My biggest concerns about these habits are that parents and grandparents are using their phones or not wearing their seatbelts when they have children in the car or truck with them. What kind of message are we sending to our younger generation?
These are big problem areas for the world today but a bigger problem area is the family unit not going to church, praying together, or studying God’s Word. Our society is changing because of the breakdown of the family unit in these areas and we are seeing more and more non-Christians being raised and taking over our country. There are too many times that children are born out of wedlock and the aged grandparents have taken on responsibility of raising these children. They do the best they can however the children are watching and learning from their birth parents and just taking advantage of the grandparents’ home and food.
Proverbs 22:6 tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Whether we are training a child or not teaching a child, the child is watching our actions and what we do and will learn from us.
When you drive a car with children aboard, they see what you are doing and hear what you are saying. If you are texting and driving they will text and drive when they are older. If you are impatient and swearing at other drivers, they will learn these mannerisms from you. If you read your Bible and pray every day, they will also hear these readings and prayers and grow up doing the same thing. Why is it that we tempt our Lord and Savior by breaking the laws of the land? Our future generation is hearing and watching what we are doing and saying.
