Quinterrance Vardaman, 26, of Tunica, was sentenced Monday to serve 20 years in prison in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The average prison stay is 11.6 years for a manslaughter conviction with no extenuating circumstances such as no other convictions for violent crime. The inmate must also exhibit good behavior in prison and be determined to not be a threat to society if they are released on probation
Vardaman plead guilty to manslaughter for the shooting death of Trevon Bell, 18-year-old of Tunica at Kirby Estates Apartments in Robinsonville.
Vardaman is also being detained, as of July 27, 2023, and has been charged with First Degree Murder for allegedly shooting and killing Jimmy Dotson, 35, of Tunica, on July 3, 2023.
Moreover, Vardaman has not been indicted on this charge – other arrests have been made in relation to the murder of Jimmy Dotson and indictments will be sought.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Brenda Mitchell.
