The Clarksdale Police have arrested a man in connection to shots fired into a car with two people in it.
Kentavious Nolan, 22, of Clarksdale was arrested for Shooting into a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Aggravated Assault for an incident that occurred Saturday, Aug 7 in the 600 block of Pecan Street.
At the time of his arrest authorities were looking at other charges being brought as their investigation into this incident and other incidents in the area. Pecan Street has been the scene of several calls of shots fired over the past few months.
Police said the car was occupied by two people and the the vehicle was shot into several times. Nolan was developed as a suspect and identified as the shooter and arrested shortly after the incident.
At his preliminary hearing, bond was set at $300,000 and he was placed in the Coahoma County Jail.
Aggravated assault is defined as injury or threat to a person to make them fear for their life. It is punishable by up to 20-years in prison and a $10,000 fine. An adult who assaults a juvenile can find the penalty enhanced to 30-years in prison.
Garfield shooting
The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating a shooting in Clarksdale that was reported over the weekend and it is the second week in a row a shooting has occurred where someone has been injured or killed by gunfire on a Clarksdale Street.
Police responded to the 400-500 block of Garfield Street over after a black male said he was shot while driving his car in the area. The date of the shooting was not given.
Police reports said several male subjects were standing in the street and the driver asked them to move to avoid hitting them. The situation escalated as the driver tried to get around the group and police said several shots were fired into the vehicle striking the man driving the car in the hand and leg area.
This case is being investigated by the police as an aggravated assault. The man, who was not identified, was listed in stable/good condition at the Clarksdale hospital.
No arrests had been reported as of noon Monday.
Armed Robbery
The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating an armed robbery in the 1000 block of North State Street.
Police said a black male entered the building armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the business. The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.
Armed robbery is a violent felony and is among the most serious crimes in Mississippi.
Armed robbery can carry a stiffer sentence than manslaughter, aggravated DUI causing death, drug trafficking, shootings, and some forms of murder. Armed robbery can carry up to life in prison, served day-for-day, without parole.
