It’s summertime and kids can stay up late, but they can’t stay out late.
The Clarksdale Police Department reminds parents they are making an extra effort this summer to keep city streets and neighborhoods free and safe from all crime and vandalism.
And that means they can and do enforce city curfew ordinances.
In an effort to inform the public and remind parents of a city ordinance that has been on the books for some time, police have asked the details of the ordinance be published.
Clarksdale’s curfew ordinance states:
“It shall be unlawful for any minor to remain, idle, wander, stroll or play in or upon any public street,
highway, park, vacant lot or other public place, either on foot or to cruise about without a set destination in any vehicle, in, about, or upon any street or public place in the city beginning at 9:00 p.m. during weekdays, specifically on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening and beginning at 10:59 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, and ending the following day at 5:30 a.m. for any minors under eighteen (18) years of age.”
Parents are reminded they can be held responsible for any fines, fees and court costs for any of their children cited for a curfew violation.
Non-custodial adults can be cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor if underage children are found to be riding in their vehicle after curfew.
As with all community policing, the Clarksdale Police Department urges residents to call 911 or the Clarksdale Police Department directly at 662-621-8151 if the spot curfew violators or suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
