Details about two people shot and killed in a Tuesday shooting continue to come out of Coahoma, a small rural community north of Clarksdale.
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department was called to Coahoma at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a shooting where four people had been hit by gunfire.
When officers arrived on the scene they found Regina Smith-Hopkins had died of her wounds. Three others had been transported to Delta Health Clarksdale Hospital emergency room with their injuries.
A 14-year old, Zymarious Smith, cousin of Regina, died at the hospital. A third shooting victim has been listed in critical condition and the fourth will apparently recover.
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department did not release the names, ages or relationships to others of the two other victims in the shooting.
Details of the incident remain sketchy.
The Smiths were apparently visiting with neighbors who had recently attended a family funeral. There were about 20 people at the gathering when the shooting occurred.
At this point it is believed to be a drive-by shooting and may involve others from the area.
The Sheriff’s Department has not released details of the vehicle that was used, how many weapons were used, the number of shots fired or if they have any suspects.
As of mid-afternoon Thursday, the Sheriff’s Department had not released if an arrest had been made.
No motive or possible reason for the shooting has been given by the Sheriff’s Department.
The murders are under investigation by the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

The gunfire and murders have shocked Clarkdale and the entire county, but it is not the first time a drive-by shooting has taken the life of someone in Coahoma.

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department said Derrick Moore, a 47-year-old black male and resident of Tunica County, was found shot multiple times in the community in northern Coahoma County.
Deputies were dispatched to Coahoma about 12:15 that morning after a 911 call came in saying someone heard shots fired.
The incident was investigated by the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department.
