The Clarksdale Police have arrested a man in connection to shots fired into a car with two people in it and in a separate incident are looking for an armed robber.
Kentavious Nolan, 22, of Clarksdale was arrested for Shooting into a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Aggravated Assault for an incident that occurred Saturday, Aug 7, in the 600 block of Pecan Street.
At the time of his arrest authorities were looking at other charges being brought as their investigation into this incident and other incidents in the area. Pecan Street has been the scene of several calls of shots fired over the past few months.
Police said the car was occupied by two people and the the vehicle was shot into several times. Nolan was developed as a suspect and identified as the shooter and arrested shortly after the incident.
At his preliminary hearing, bond was set at $300,000 and he was placed in the Coahoma County Jail.
Aggravated assault is defined as injury or threat to a person to make them fear for their life. It is punishable by up to 20-years in prison and a $10,000 fine. An adult who assaults a juvenile can find the penalty enhanced to 30-years in prison.
Aggravated assault is a felony and shooting into a home can also be deemed a felony if prosecutors and judges wish to pursue it.
Armed Robbery
The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating an armed robbery in the 1000 block of North State Street.
Police said a black male entered the building armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the business. The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.
Armed robbery is a violent felony and is among the most serious crimes in Mississippi.
Armed robbery can carry a stiffer sentence than manslaughter, aggravated DUI causing death, drug trafficking, shootings, and some forms of murder. Armed robbery can carry up to life in prison, served day-for-day, without parole.
A person can be convicted of armed robbery even if he just makes an attempt.
Armed robbery, as the name implies, requires the use of a deadly weapon in the robbery. Examples of deadly weapons can include firearms, knives, baseball bats, bricks, golf clubs, broken bottles, and even automobiles.
Police are actively investigating this incident and urge the community assistance in arresting the robber.
Home Burglary
Police have reported the burglary of a home in the 100 block of Cherry Street.
A PlayStation and X-Box were reported as stolen in the burglary.
Anyone convicted of breaking and entering a home or inner door of a dwelling whether armed with a deadly weapon or not, and even if at the time the dwelling house is not occupied, with intent to commit a crime, shall be placed in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for not less than three years nor more than 25 years.
The crime is enhanced if they person has a previous burglary conviction.
Auto Burglaries
Clarksdale Police are investigating two auto burglaries.
The first incident occurred on Simmons Road when a handgun was stolen from a vehicle.
The second auto burglary occurred on Martin Luther King Boulevard and nothing was reported as taken from the vehicle.
Grand Larceny
The Clarksdale Police Department has reported two auto thefts after two truck were stolen over the past weekend.
The first auto was stolen from the 1900 block of Hospital Drive. A 1995 Ford Ranger truck, no color or details given was taken.
The second auto was stolen from the 1100 block of Wildcat Drive. A 2011 GMC truck, no color or unique marks given was stolen.
A person convicted of grand larceny faces the following felony penalties:
- If the property is valued at $1,000 or more but less than $5,000, the offender faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The penalty increases to a ten-year felony sentence if the property is stolen from a place of worship.
- If the property is valued at $5,000 or more but less than $25,000, the offender faces a maximum sentence of ten years' imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
- If the property is valued at $25,000 or more, the offender faces a 20-year maximum prison sentence and a fine of $10,000.
Shots Fired:
• 100 block of Catalpa Street - Police responded to the area and officers spoke with several subjects. Officers patrolled the area for some time and everything was said to be okay.
