The Clarksdale Police Department was kept busy this weekend with an aggravated assault, home burglary and shots fired into a vehicle while the rest of the community enjoyed graduation ceremonies around town and now have an eye on the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.
Aggravated Assault
Police were called to the DHS Emergency Room early Saturday morning on a report of a man with a gunshot wound needing medical care.
Officers responding to the scene found Brandon Sims suffering a gunshot wound to the upper shoulder. Sims told police he was driving in the 400 block of Washington Street when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot.
Sims told police he drove himself to the emergency room at about 12:54 a.m.
Sims was treated and later transported to Region One hospital in Memphis.
The case was assigned to Investigator G. Johnson.
Clarksdale Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez has asked anyone with information about this incident to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911.
All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving a crime.
Police also remind residents that hospitals are required by law to contact authorities when they treat a gunshot wound whether it is accidental, self-inflicted or the result of a crime.
Residential Burglary
Clarksdale Police received a call about a home burglary at 10:50 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Pecan Street.
Jeremy Stephens told police he was unsure of the point of entry but a dryer and two record players were missing from his home..
The case was assigned to Investigator L. Grimes.
Shooting into a vehicle
Clarksdale Police responded to a call from a woman who said shots were fired into her vehicle Saturday night.
Police met with Kabrea McClain in the 600 block of Messenger Street at about 7:41 p.m., and she told police she was at her house when someone told her that her car had been shot.
McClain said her boyfriend Terance White was driving the vehicle and her son was in the car.
Police reports stated citizens at the scene said a maroon Nissan was traveling on Messenger Street when a gold Mercedes Benz following it shot into the Nissan and a bullet apparently hit McClain's vehicle.
Police said no one was injured in the incident and the case has been assigned to Investigator G. Johnson.
Shots fired
The Clarksdale Police Department has responded to the following reports of shots fired over the weekend:
- 800 block of Lincoln Street – nothing found
- 900 block of Desoto Ave - nothing found
- 900 block of Spruce Street – nothing found
- 700 block of Tallahatchie Street – nothing found
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
