The Visit Clarksdale tourism board provided grants for three events coming up in September and October.
The board approved grants for the Cruz’n the Crossroads Car & Truck Show the weekend of October 30, the Hambone Festival and Mag Fest on September 4.
“It is a good busy weekend with also Stan’s (Street) festival, Hambone Festival,” said Visit Clarksdale executive director Bubba O’Keefe.
The Cruz’n the Crossroads Car & Truck Show did go on when the COVID pandemic was at its height.
“I think last year, in spite of COVID, they had a good turnout. They had more cars than ever,” O’Keefe said. “They are really going out there and marketing it and so their request is $3,000.”
O’Keefe said Visit Clarksdale gave the Cruz’n the Crossroads Car & Truck Show $2,500 in 2020.
“They have been doing it for a number of years. It has been growing. It’s a car and truck show,” O’Keefe said.
O’Keefe said the Cruz’n the Crossroads Car & Truck Show was at a good location in back of the C & S Bank and next to the Delta Blues Museum.
“It’s been pretty successful with the attendance, drawing people from out of town,” O’Keefe said. “And I think it works pretty good piggybacking with Stan’s festival at the other end of the street. People are going back and forth.”
The board approved a $1,500 grant for the Hambone Festival also on the weekend of October 30.
The Hambone Festival is a music festival at Hambone Art Gallery on East Second Street. Street purposely made the festival near Halloween and his birthday in October.
The board also approved a $400 grant for the Mag Fest on September 4.
It is a music festival at the Shack Up Inn.
JP Soard & The Red Hots will be featured this year.
“It’s not a big festival,” O’Keefe said. “It’s an important festival. It adds again to the mix of also that Labor Day weekend.”
O’Keefe said the $400 would go toward printing up posters and things of that nature. He added 100 to 130 individuals usually attend.
“A lot of them fly in so I think it’s a good value for us,” O’Keefe said.
